English Language Classes
English language classes are the core business of the ARDA-Laos language centres located in Vientiane, Pakse, Luang Prabang & Savannakhet.
Each Language Centre runs English language courses at various levels, from beginner to advanced.
The main English language courses run for 16 weeks, with 3 x 2 hour lessons each week. These courses are run twice each year. Most courses are run in the evening to allow workers and students to attend after hours. These courses use the Headway syllabus from Oxford University – “the world’s best selling English language course”
There is also a much shorter Summer Term which runs in the middle of the year between the two main courses.
All new students will sit a short assessment interview to ensure they are enrolled in the best class for their level of English Language. For assessment dates and course schedules, see the details for Vientiane, Pakse , Luang Prabang or Savannakhet. All courses are taught by qualified English language teachers from English speaking countries. Classes are kept reasonably small (around 20 people) to enable good participation by all students. Classes involve more than just attending the lesson. In lessons students will be actively involved in many practical exercises and fun activities to practice, encourage and promote the correct use of the English language. Students receive a students book as well as a workbook with exercises to be completed at home between lessons.
Courses usually have mid and final term spoken and written tests. On completion of a level (e.g. ‘Beginner’), students who pass the tests and come to 80% of classes receive a certificate and can enter the next level the following term.
